The Building
The Institute, Braintree’s only theatre, is now available to book for your wedding reception, party, celebration, wake or corporate event for up to 260 guests. Built in 1862, our Grade II listed building is packed with charm and character and is also situated in an ideal location in the heart of the town centre. Having undergone a complete transformation while still preserving the historical charm of our 19th century venue, The Institute boasts first storey height windows which let in an abundance of natural light, restored wooden flooring, and a dedicated stage to use to your full advantage. We also have two rooms upstairs ,The Loft and The Attic, which can accommodate 60 and 100 guests respectively.
MAIN HALL

THE LOFT
The Loft, a versatile space that effortlessly blends rustic charm with contemporary elegance. The wooden floors create a warm and inviting ambiance, setting the stage for unforgettable moments and its high ceilings and expansive windows, natural light floods the space, creating a bright and airy atmosphere.
The Loft is a canvas waiting to be transformed to suit any theme or style for your special occasion. The room comes complete with a bar, adding an extra layer of excitement and convenience, making it perfect for parties and celebratory gatherings.
THE STAGE DOOR BAR
The Stage Door is a charming wood panelled theatre bar adorned with a piano, eclectic furniture and whimsical ornaments, creating an atmosphere that's both inviting and theatrical. Mismatched chairs and vintage pieces add character to the intimate setting, making it the perfect spot parties and gatherings of up to 60 people. The Stage Door promises a unique and delightful experience, where every detail, from the teal walls to the curated decor, contributes to the overall charm of this hidden gem.
